Re- Actual Date Of The Commencement Of Muharram 1437ah And Tasu’a / ‘Ashurah  Fastings

As a follow-up to our earlier Press Release on the Muslim Hijrah Year (1437AH), dated 14^th October, 2015, which we felicitated with the Nigerian Muslim Ummah and implored them to observe Tasu’a and ‘Ashurah, the JNI wish to reiterate once more that the sighting of the crescent for Muharram, wasn’t reported, thus Dhul-Hijjah was completed 30 days and 1^st Muharram automatically fell on Thursday, 15^th October, 2015.

This clarification became necessary due to the many calls, mails and SMS received at the JNI headquarters seeking further elucidation. It is therefore, on that bases that we reiterate that the 9^th and 10^th of Muharram will be Friday, 23^rd and Saturday, 24^th of October, 2015, respectively In-shaa-Allah. Hence, today is Wednesday 7^th Muharram, 1437AH.

Once more the Ummah is called upon in line with the teachings of the Prophet (SAW), to fast these days and pray fervently for Allah’s intervention in our mundane lives. May Allah, the Most High continue to ease our affairs, restore back peace, security and development to our dear country, amin.
