The Vice Chancellor of the Federal University Lokoja, kogi state Professor Angela Miri has mourned the late former Chief Judge of Plateau State, late justice Lazaru Dakyen and his leadership contribution to humanity and law profession in Nigeria.
She described the late legal luminary as a selfless man who had made his part known in the sands of time when rose through her education by teaching them confident buildings and hard work.
Prof. Miri maintained that her earlier encounter with some of the staff of the federal university Lokoja had encouraged her to develop new faculties and mutual respect amongst the indigene urging them to support the institution so as to train manpower development.
She frowned at some of the staff attitude towards her as the new Vice Chancellor of the university where they displayed desperation and she felt they are bent on frustrating her by ensuring that any of her new policy cannot scale through to help move the institution forward .
The vice Chancellor disclosed this to our reporter in an interview during the burial ceremony of her elder brother late justice Lazarus Dakyen at her residence along Gboko Road Jos, plateau state.
Professor Angela was one time commissioner for information and a senior lecturer with the University of Jos before her new appointment by President Mohammadu Buhari.
According to her, her experience as a professor before the appointment by His Excellency president Mohammadu Buhari, she had held several managerial positions in Plateau State and outside the state and based on those capacity and other academic standards the President appointed her.
Miri further revealed on how on assumption of office some group of staff in the university who were not comfortable with her appointment as the head of the institution for obvious reasons, “that I am not from the state, and female wanted to stampede me and they choose never to see anything good on my policies to move the university forward.
The vice Chancellor maintained that she never allowed herself to be stampeded nor intimidated as the groups has come to realized, “that I was not having anything against anybody other than good intentions for the development of the university and for the staff to do their work in confines with the law of the institution.
On her relationship with her late brother justice Lazarus Dakyen, she said a word is not enough to describe him but we will really miss his fatherly advice.
“He is gentleman per excellence, l grew up with him and he sponsored me throughout my secondary school to my university days”..
“She further said he gave her hands out in marriage, which is when I finally left for my husband house “.
She stressed that his death is an irreparable lost to the family as the late justice had touched many lives of his extended families in one way or the other”, she explained.
She however thanked God that her late brother witnessed her progress before his death.
