Press Release : CACOL Hails Chief Of Staff Sack, Calls For His Probe
The Coalition Against Corrupt Leaders (CACOL) has commended the resignation of President Goodluck Jonathan’s Chief of Staff , Chief Mike Oghiadomhe.
Oghiadomhe tendered his resignation letter yesterday after he attended a meeting of the planning committee of the nation’s centenary celebration inside the Presidential Villa alongside some other top government officials.
Pointblanknews.com, an online publication hinted that Oghiadomhe resignation came amidst speculations that he may have some fingers in the slimy deals in the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC)
The publication disclosed that Jonathan’s desk had been inundated with horrible security reports implicating his Chief of Staff in sundry deals at the NNPC and other agencies of Government. Jonathan however asked Oghiadomhe to resign yesterday, sparing him the humiliation of an outright sack.
Speaking on behalf of the Coalition, its Executive Chairman, Debo Adeniran averred that Mike Oghiadomhe’s resignation is long overdue.
“It is very unfortunate that Chief Mike Oghiadomhe was appointed into President Jonathan’s cabinet in the first instance. As a matter of fact, our Coalition vehemently opposed his appointment six years having worked hands in gloves as the Deputy of the former Governor of Edo State, Mr. Lucky Igbinedion, who was convicted of embezzling his state’s funds. Going by the speculations in some quarters that the former COS must have been pressured to resign due to his involvement in some Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) shady deals, we want to believe that the man is a clever thief who could have perpetrated fraud judging by his antecedent. We are not sure he could come out clean with the rumour. We were even suspicious that his presence in the presidency may be that he was rooting for the president to grant his principal-Lucky Igbinedion- amnesty. Hence, his resignation is a good riddance to bad rubbish.
The anti-corruption crusader however called on the anti-graft agencies to investigate the veracity of the allegation.
He said, “We call on the anti-graft agencies to investigate the veracity of the allegation and if Oghiadomhe is found to have abused his office, resignation is not enough, he should be punished appositely to serve as deterrent to others.
