The national president of Fisheries Co-operative Federation of Nigeria, Anthony Ashagye has called on the federal government to as matter of national importance to revisit the contract for the dredging of River Niger-Benue awarded by former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan.
The president disclosed that the significance of the two major seaways would serve as source of job opportunity and revenue to the country, he reiterated that the dredging of River Niger-Benue would enhance water transportation.
He started this at the meeting of North -Central of the Association held at the state ministry of Agriculture, the absence and high rate of fish feeds, the president said the Association would partner Iran expert for the production of feeds at an exorbitant price.
The president called on the national Assembly to come up with a legislation to ban the use of dynamite, poison and other harmful means of catching fish, he advice the public on the peril of consuming fish caught through the use of poison, he added.
Members at the meeting also expressed worried over the increasing rate of water pollution in the country, one of the member, Umaru Ose, the chairman of the Association from Doma called at government at all levels to accord premise to body of waters.
