  • Akwashi is a betrayer-state PDP chairman

Hon. Godiya Akwashi, the deputy speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly has described the ruling All Progressives Congress as the alternative party that will manage the current state of the nation at both state and federal level.

Akwashi stated this when he led a team of members of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and staunch members of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) to the state Secretariat of the APC few hours after dumping his former party, the PDP.

Hon. Godiya Akwashi voted under auspices of the PDP said the programs of the APC at both at Federal and state level attract him to jump ship to the ruling party, he listed some of bumper projects exhibited by APC at the state level include construction of schools, township roads.

“Our defection is to join hands with the ruling party to build a virile Nasarawa state of our dreams “I’m assuring you that we have come to irreversible conclusion to join APC”.

The deputy speaker opined that the decision of his defection followed the decision of his people, saying his followers gave him an ultimatum to dump the party, the deputy speaker promised to remain loyal to his new political party  at all times.

“All the heavyweight of PDP and APGA that did not allow the ruling party to win Nasarawa Eggon local government are all right now with me and I promised you that Nasarawa Eggon now is the home of APC, the multitude of our supporters are waiting for the party to receive them at Nasarawa Eggon”.

The state chairman of the party, Philips Tatari Shekwor welcomed the new decampees to the ruling party, he described Godiya Akwashi as a politician with political acumen, attesting the new party member and his followers will add value to the party.

“Party member is not about first come first serve but is about membership contributions and zeal to build a strong party, calling on Akwashi to unite his people.

The party Secretary, Aliyu Bello in his remark affirmed that governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura play a formidable influence over the emergence of Godiya Akwashi as the deputy speaker being from the opposition party.

“It is only in our party that new decampees were given the full privileges to contest for elective position not like in other political parties that gave two years to decampees to contest”.

“There is a waiver, even though the deputy speaker has been contributing to our party for the past one year.

The state chairman of the People’s Democratic Party, Hon Francis Orogu in a reaction to the defection of the deputy speaker and his followers said his defection is not a problem to the party.

Orogu disclosed that Akwashi has never been a member of the PDP, saying the party had earlier envisaged of him being a betrayer and his defection is a welcome development to the party.

“His decamping has no value to the People’s Democratic Party and his defection will not affect the ongoing reconciliation exercise ongoing at the state, he added.

Those that Defected alongside the deputy speaker are;

Emmmanuel Kuje Yaro, state Secretary of APGA, Nuhu Kagbu, Musa Ibrahim Ayaks, Yusuf Mada, Umar Musa Gombe, former PDP Chairman, Nasarawa Eggon local government.

Others are Toni Akawu Kuje, APGA, Mathew Duniya, immediate speaker of Nasarawa Eggon, John Ididaku, Shuaibu Ali Manya Patrick Luka, Nuhu Agbo including ten former councilors from Nasarawa Eggon.

The mass exodus of followers of the party is coming at the time the party was about settling a crack over theft defection of a poltical heavyweight, Hon Tanko, the Danmajen Azara.
