Political thuggery: Gombe Police issues out warning

Gombe State Police Command has issued out warning to all political parties in Gombe over  some reported activities which according to the police, were capable of disrupting the peaceful coexistence of people in the state.

According to the reports, a number of youth were usually seen carrying political posters, and placards chanting aggressive statements at each other in a court premises where the current governorship election tribunal sitting is being held.

Also, according to the press release the alleged party supporters were engaged in creating nuisance around the court vicinity and thereby disrupting the court presiding. The release also stated that, the police in the state was prepared to prosecute any individual or group that is found wanting.

Part of the release read, “the Gombe police command has observed with dismay the way some youths converge at vicinity of the Tribunal sitting in Gombe, obstructing free-flow of traffic and generally constituting nuisance, the command hereby advice all political parties to warn their supporters to stop fomenting problems.”

Gombe state had been battling with youth restiveness, particularly the popular youth group tagged ‘yan kalare’ who have been linked to several criminal activities such as killing, stealing, and destruction of properties.

The state police command had also vowed not to leave any stone unturned in ensuring a crime free society in the state.
