The Police Command in Kogi State has dismissed one of its personnel, Sergeant Akpa James from service over an alleged killing of a man in Ajaokuta LGA of Kogi State.

The sacked Sgt James was attached to the Special Protection Unit (SPU), Zone 8, Lokoja in Kogi Police Command.

In a statement signed by ASP William Aya the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of Kogi State Command, he alleged that the deceased, Ohimi Ojima, before he met his untimely death had an argument with security men in Ajaokuta Steel Company when he was ordered to make a U-turn to the direction of the road where he was coming from.

The statement read thus; “The victim insisted and went to an extent of attempting to disarm the sergeant and was fatally injured in the process and while being rushed to ASCL Hospital Ajaokuta for medical treatment, he died.

“The sergeant has been arrested, detained, tried in orderly room and dismissed from the force. He will be charged to court for prosecution at the end of the proceedings.”

The PPRO also refuted reports in some sections of the media that the deceased was a younger brother to the Executive Governor of Kogi State.

“The report which reads that the deceased is a younger brother to the Executive Governor of Kogi State is false in its entirety. The victim hailed from Ibaji Local Government of Kogi State.

“The Command urged members of the public to always confirm the true nature of incidents before sending such to social media or any other platform, so as not to mislead the good people of the State,” the statement said.
