Police ASP Arrested Over Alleged Killing Of 7 Farmers In Adamawa

The Adamawa State Police Command on Thursday confirmed the arrest of a policeman who was alleged to have shot to death seven farmers in the state. The arrest followed a petition by a Civil Society Organization, Progressive Mind for Development Initiate.

It would be recalled that a Human Rights activist and the President of Progressive mind for development initiative (PMDI), comrade Abubakar Abdulsalam in a letter of complaint to Adamawa state police command threaten to take further steps if the case of culpable homicide against ASP Hassan Usman Dass is not properly handle.

“Any failure on the part of the Nigerian police force to investigate and prosecute this case, we as an organisation will be compelled to take appropriate steps within the confines of the law to handle this case against the ASP in question and the Nigerian police force.” He says

Comrade Abubakar is accusing Hassan of indecent and illegal killings of about 11 young Men sometimes in 2016 and 2017 respective.

In the letter of complaint Abubakar explain that on 30th April, 2017 at about 0200hours at Kiri Shelleng Local Government Area of Adamawa State the suspect indiscriminately killed four young men innocently.

According to him the suspect was a Divisional Police Officer (DPO) serving in Shelleng and use his uniform to killed Buba Grema, Musa Bakari, Jauro Henpeto and Yusuf.

“We the above name organization  deem it very important to formally intimate you of the inhuman act of this unprofessional police officer as section 36 of the 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended, provides for the right to life for any citizen of Nigeria. ”

In the letter he also reminded the Nigerian police of their responsibility to safe guard the fundamental human rights of its citizens and if the heinous killings is not checked it will continue to spread like a wild fire ,the country will be a failed state and unsafe for its citizens.

The complaint letter portends that ASP Hassan is freely moving about crimeless when after he had committed the crime and was later transferred from Shelleng to the state command headquarters in Yola.

According to an investigation done by our correspondent Hassan was later promoted and was made Officer in-Charge of safer Highways with thus as his appointment no. 145555.

It was on duty and on his way to Madagali LGA in the name of fighting Boko Haram insurgents on the 23rd November, 2017 at about 0300 hours he again killed about seven able young Men farmers in Gombi LGA where it was not a duty called area he was assigned to go.

While the Adamawa State police command through the office of the Police Public relations office, PPRO, Othman Abubakar confirms that the suspect is under arrest and they are investigating the matter.
