The Rivers State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party said it has discovered a ploy by the governor of the state, Governor Rotimi Amaechi to move members of the State House of Assembly to Government House, Port Harcourt, in order to allow them to sit to receive and pass the 2014 budget.

In a statement signed by Jerry Needam, media adviser to the State Chairman, added that the directive by the governor should be disregarded, as he also said  that all decisions taken at Government House or any other place outside the Rivers State House of Assembly by lawmakers loyal to Governor Rotimi Amaechi, are illegal, unconstitutional, criminal and of no effect.
“It is also pertinent to note that it would be eminently illegal, unwise and criminal for Governor Rotimi Amaechi to contemplate and or direct the moving of the RSHA to Government House, Port Harcourt.
“It should be pointed out that the PDP shall resist such move and also make it very impossible for such decisions and or resolutions arising from any sham sitting of the RHSA in Government House, Port Harcourt to hold water.”
The party also asserted that the relocation of members of the State Assembly on alleged excuse that the Assembly complex was undergoing renovation, would also be used to nullify the position of the National Judicial Council (NJC) on the appointment of a Chief Judge for the state.
