The Plateau Youths under the aegis of, G17, Peace and Progressive Forum have presented “, Anti-Grazing Citizens bill to the Rt Hon. Speaker, Plateau State House of Assembly, Peter Ajang Azi to end farmers /herders clashes in Plateau state.

The spokesman for the Youth who also doubles as the convener, Comrade Dachung Bagos who made the presentation at the State House of Assembly Complex in Jos.

He said we are calling on the state House of Assembly to fast-track the smooth passage of open grazing bill which is one of the major challenges that always result to killing and destruction of farmlands in the state.

According to him, open grazing if banned on the Plateau will reduce the rate of killings as well as farmers /herders conflict, adding that if somebody wants to graze he or she should ensure that he purchase land for ranching his animals.

Bagos explained further that government promised to acquire land for grazing but we are calling on the present regime of Governor Simon Lalong to allow them to buy their own land for grazing or ranching.

” we are against grazing especially open grazing we advise government to save the lives of our beloved brothers, sisters and our parents who are victims of the mayhem so the need for the total banning on the Plateau “, he added.

We vehemently resist any attempt made by a government to acquire hectares of land in any part of the local governments for the purpose of open grazing where our children, parents, and hospitals are shutdowns owning to forceful taken over of our parent’s ancestral farmland for grazing.

Dachung Bagos maintained that on the Plateau rearing of cows is a family business so nobody has released money or acquire hectares of farmland or fertilizer to the farmers.

We are urging Plateau state house of assembly to pass this open grazing bill, and if the house can pass it we the Plateau Youth are seeing the 8th Assembly as the hero of democracy in the history of the state.

“Our appeal to this honorable house is to consider the immediate passage of the anti-grazing bill on resumption next year between February 2017 as a true representative of people”.

The Youth carry placards with various inscriptions, such as Ranching is a private business, killing must end, support a ban on open grazing on Plateau state, we demand a ban open grazing for a safer & peaceful Plateau.

“Fulani herdsmen have shattered the dream and the progress of our people by making them have a low sense of reasoning, a least 1000 have been brutality killed within one year.

“We also embark on wider consultation in the middle belt, so our people are deprived of the right to freedom of expression, movement, and association.

He vowed to support the state house of assembly on open grazing believing is a private business and also to get a subsidy to farmers.
