The Nigeria Union of   Teachers (NUT) in Plateau has rejected the Proposed amendment of the  1999 Constitution on Local Government Autonomy and Scrapping of the state join Account.
Consequently, the teachers in a press Conference addressed in Jos today by Comrade Gunshin Yarlings  explained that they are not longer willing to go though the experience of near total collapse when Salaries were owned for 12 months.
“The local Government Council never took primary education as a superiority even their allocation from the federation account was increased from 15 to 20 percent and done to ensure that local government councils comfortably assist the state government in the payment of salaries teachers“.
According to the teachers, the period under review was also“ characterized by the failure to contribute its mandatory 15 percent of the teachers emolument to the pension fund mean for the payment of. Pension and gratuity“.
They contended that “this led to the non  payment of pension and gratuity of some teachers which let to their untimely death“.
Comrade Gunshin Yarlings added that most of the lucky surviving retirees in plateau State are still suffering the effect of the neglect by the local Government.
He said the teachers had not gotten their neglect in the hands of the local government Councils, saying. “That they diverted their salaries thereby leaving teachers to wallow in penury and pains“.
According to him, granting of autonomy to local government councils will amount to the labor of our heroes past in vain, noting that “ the creation of the state join account were done to reverse the trend of local government councils abuse of teachers.
