Plateau State Government In Conjunction With Umah Publishers Nig. Ltd Is  Set To Organise “Literary Contest” For Public And Private Secondary Schools

The Plateau State government in conjunction with Umah Publishers Nig. Ltd., had concluded arrangement to herald intra and inter-secondary schools reading and learning contest in both public and private Secondary Schools, with a clarion call on the Principals of various Secondary Schools on the Plateau to welcome the ‘idea’ and key in by encouraging and spurring students and their parents/sponsors to registering their wards/students  for the “said Contest,” whose sole aim is targeted at improving reading culture that has been bastardised already amongst the Nigerian Students. And equally, making education hugely rewarding again, in the country.

 

The ADS to the permanent secretary , Mr. Nuwatta M. Kangrusa in a replied letter dated 30-09-2019; had directed all DES., ADO and Principals of public and private schools to ensure that their students participate actively.

 

The statement encouraged and spurred schools competition by calling on principals of public and private schools to see that, the exercise is geared towards fighting mass illiteracy and exam malpractices too in sub-sahara African countries, where there had been for sometimes now, recorded high rate of poor learning.

 

 

Meanwhile, the General Manager, Mr. lke Tochukwu, of Umah Publishers Nigeria Limited, says “they have received both Federal and State  Ministries of Education ‘Consents sequel, Approvals,’ to commence the  “literary Contest,” among Secondary Schools, in Nigeria, the maiden starting on the Plateau, first, hinged greatly on improving reading and learning amongst all the secondary schools students spread across the 36 states including Federal Capital Territory, Abuja to improve and boost learning imbuing and grooming adequately, future leaders of our dear nation, Nigeria.

 

Speaking to Newsmen in Jos, Tochukwu disclosed that one of their corporate cardinal social responsibility to the society is to promote reading culture and improve learning skills in secondary schools.

 

He said, Plateau state which is one of the pilot states will soon kickoff as the government had indicated interest towards encouraging and inspiring children/students learning and having sound knowledge in literary education, bettering their skills in writing, communication and use of  English.

 

Tochukwu called on Local Government Chairmen on the Plateau and of course, Nigeria at large, to key into the project by sponsoring more indigent students who can not afford the cost of literary books that would be used for the upcoming “contest.”

 

According to him, in order to promote reading culture in schools, and to improve students’ communication skills, with well comprehensive and articulated education materials, so many novels have been authored by some literary scholars who had demonstrated prolific and precocious literary abilities and same, outlined and designed as guideline to aid the eventual, participants.

 

He maintained that the programme is aimed at guiding and ordering students into attaining their future endeavours with modest and sound character of learning in developing them to become leaders.
