The Plateau State Government in conjunction with German Cooperation and GIZ have set up Plateau Multi Door Courthouse,(PMDC) ,Jos ,for quick ,efficient affordable resolution of disputes using ADR .
The Chairman of the state chapter, Justice Kenlong in a courtesy called to Plateau state Chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Mr Paul Jatau Exco on Tuesday.
He said the multi Door Courthouse is embarking on sensitization awareness to the general public to know and to solicit the cooperation of media practitioners to help pass information on the existence of the arbitrary court house which is aimed at resolving disputes using ADR approach.
According to him, they are here to identify with the leadership of NUJ to create enlightenment to the general public including politician who might not want to go court and also help reduce expensive payment of litigation.
We want the people of Plateau state to have knowledge of the out of court settlement is on ground to resolve issues related to Land dispute ,husband and wife ,political issue ,contract and others criminals case file in court .
Justice explained further that the multi Door courthouse is yet to commence function but there is ongoing registration for experts in a specialized discipline in conflict resolution which is open for eligible candidates to meet the registrar on ground to register interested candidate.
He emphasized that many people who may not want to go to court, they are to go through the registrar under the arbitration of 3 penal to ensure that they settled the matter amicably.
The rules provide less fees charge on litigation and are less expensive and fast means of peaceful way of judicial system so that people can now approach it to get justice.
Also adding, Justice Nafisat Mohammad stressed that the Multi Door Courthouse would boost economic activities instance spending so much on litigation that can last for years.
She added that for the people to avoid payment of appearance fee, going to appeal court and Supreme Court the matter will be settle with the parties involved spending their hard end money.
They promised to establish the multi Door Courthouse across the 17 local government councils ease challenges of insecurity, land grabbing, family conflict, and other social verses raging the society.
Members of Multi Door Courthouse include, Chief Emmanuel Magni, Justice Yakubu Dakwak, Justice Nafisat Mohammad, Comrade Charles Dickson, led by Justice kenlong.
