The Rector of the Plateau State Polytechnic Barkin Ladi, Dr Clement Selchum Cirman has commended Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang’s decision to cancel the last employment as one of the most ridiculous things that had ever happened in the history of tertiary institutions in Plateau State where farmers and all manner of lecturers were picked from their villages and handover employment to come and lecture.
Dr. Cirman made the disclosure at the main Campus of the Polytechnic Barkin Ladi permanent site Heipang during a courtesy call on him by the Nklang O’tarok ga liryem on Thursday.
He said, this is the worst thing in a place where our younger brothers and children are coming to acquire knowledge and we cannot entrust their future in the hands of illiterate persons, you go and take a farmer in the village and bring him to come and lecture.
Chairman appealed to Plateau people as a matter of concern commending Governor Cale Manasseh Mutfwang’s administration for taking a bold step to address some of the problems of tertiary institutions affecting the state, as he urged citizens not to condemn the decision to cancel the employment of staff.
He disclosed that Governor Caleb Mutfwang after he was sworn-in the governor carefully studied the problem associated with the constant strikes in tertiary institutions where he was able to release money to all the tertiary institutions in the State.
According to him, in the past time, lecturers were also not paid so they constantly embarked on protests blocking major roads in the state. Still, when he came on board we addressed them. That era of going to block roads is gone because Governor Caleb Mutfwang promised to revamp the falling standard of education in the state tertiary institutions.
Cirman appealed to the protesting staff to sheath their swords and embrace the plan and vision of the Mutfwang administration who approved the Rector.
However, Governor Caleb Mutfwang in his determination to reposition the falling standard of education in the state has ordered that qualified lecturers should be recruited into the system anywhere in the world and the best brain should be given topmost priority instead, he said.
Dr Cirman Selchum emphasized that even some of them who came for documentation didn’t know what they were coming to do, they only gave them an appointment letter in the market square and when they came they came to know that their jobs were for lecturing, and most of them declined that no we don’t want to be lecturers.,” Please look for us another job, not that of lecturing “.
He lamented that those who read different courses were asked to go to other departments especially geography were assigned to business administration as lecturers’s these are the critical decisions taken by Governor Caleb Mutfwang but what our people are not familiar with are criticizing him on politics.
Cirman condemned how politicians are misleading and destroying the educational sector instead of bringing those that are qualified to do the job they go about with employment letters in car butt dashing it out to people that are not qualified for that job.
He explained further that there are graduates who came out with first-class degrees roaming the streets because they don’t have anyone they can’t get an appointment to bring positive knowledge to the next generations.
Dr Clement Selchum stressed that he came to occupy the Rector of Plateau State Polytechnic Barkin Ladi on merit so no one would intimidate or bring that attitude of corruption into his office.
He called on the Tarok-speaking natives of Plateau State to cooperate with the present government to benefit from the dividends of democracy, we the Tarok have suffered rejection for a very long time so this administration gave us listening ears so we must support it.
