Photos: Watch As Nigeria Football Federation Office Was Gutted By Fire

The office of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) in Abuja was gutted by fire Wednesday morning.

It took more than an hour before fire fighters could put out the inferno.

“The fire started from the chief accountant’s office as I was told,” said NFF general secretary Musa Amadu.

“I just arrived the office and saw the smoke and was not allowed to go upstairs obviously for safety reasons.

“Staff members would have been able to reduce the impact of the damage, but could not gain access into the office and as such could not quench or trace where the smoke was coming out from.

“But we must not engage in blame games and thank God that no life was lost. But this is sad and unfortunate.”

The office of the general secretary along with those of other principal officers of the federation was gutted.

“The whole place is in total confusion. You cannot pick a pin from the office of the general secretary as it has been totally gutted,” a top official at the scene of the fire incident earlier informed AfricanFootball.com

The police are expected to begin investigations into the fire incident.

This incident comes on the heels of acrimonious events leading to elections to the NFF executive committee soon.

NFF president Aminu Maigari only returned to office on Monday after a purported impeachment by some members of the executive committee was thrown out by FIFA because it did not follow laid down procedures.

On Tuesday afternoon, Maigari chaired an executive committee meeting at the office with a faction of the excos led by Vice-president Mike Umeh, who had acted as president in the absence of Maigari, staying away.
