A massive explosion at the early hours of today rocked Muna garage in Maiduguri, Borno state, as killed many while many others were injured.
As learnt by this medium, improvised Explosive Device (IEDs) concealed in a commercial Volkswagen Golf car was said to have exploded, killing the driver and other passersby.
However, the number of casualty could not be ascertained as at the time of filling this report.
Meanwhile, National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, and Borno State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA officials have been deployed to the scene to evacuate bodies.Also, security agencies have condoned off the area.
Confirming the incident, Borno Command Police Public Relations Officer, Emmanuel Isuku, said, “At about 0830 date, there was an IED explosion onboard a Golf 1 motor vehicle with reg. No JERE 349 XA, body S/No RTEAN 7179 taxi colour carry 5passengers (4 females and a male driver), by Muna along maiduguri /Gamboru Ngala road.
“The explosion occurred when the taxi was attempting to join the convoy of other vehicles heading to Gamboru town.
“The suicide bomber, who is reasonably believed to be one of the female casualties, was picked along the road”.
Speaking a JTF member said; “The suspected Boko Haram members were three in number and died in the suicide attack. For quite some time now, the terrorists have been making frantic effort to attack Maiduguri, but we were always stopping them.
“Just about five days ago another was killed who came through Jiddari polo side, coming from Alidawari village and now the attack today at Muna,” Kabiru Shuibu said.
According to him, Soldiers and Police bomb squad have been detailed to the site of the blast.
However, sources at a hospital in Maiduguri, the Borno state capital said 18 people were killed in the attack while 26 others were injured.
