Over 40 AEDC Substation Destroyed by Vandals In Nasarawa State-Regional Manager

The Regional Manager of the Abuja Electricity Distribution company, Keffi Regional, Aminu Shakur has raised alarm over the incessant attacks meted on electric transformers in Nasarawa State.

The Manager gave the indication while fielding questions by members of the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists at the company’s regional office in Keffi.

He lamented over the incessant and rising spate of vandalism by men of the underworld as a major constraint affecting power supply in the state capital and its environs.

Shakur disclosed that security agencies are also amongst those vandalizing electrical installations, calling on power consumers to protect electrical fittings.

“We urge customers to consider transformer and other electrical installation their personal property by ensuring the safeguarding of those properties”.

Adding that AEDC is working relentlessly to nip the gory situation in the bud, the regional manager, Keffi region pleaded with power consumers, saying the company is doing its possible best to ensure that customers get constant power supply in the entire state.

Aminu Shakur disclosed that Nasarawa State needed over 135 megawatts, he, in addition, maintained that only 50 percent of megawatts was allocated to the state.

“We have exceeded the allocation of 11 percent of our consumption to satisfy customers, he said.

on the issue of a  Prepaid meter, Shakur said 120 meters have so far been distributed by AEDC.

“Succeeded in doing so by conducting an enumeration exercise in Karu axis, stating that is going to be a continuous process by 2018.

The Chairman of the Correspondents ‘ Chapel, Suleiman Abubakar appreciate the company for the sly improvement in power supply.

He, however, said the visit was to create a symbiotic relationship between the fourth estate of the realm and the Abuja Electricity Distribution company.

Urging AEDC to hasten the distribution of prepaid meters, Abubakar says the company loses colossal amount of money due to nonpayment of bills by customers.

Stating further that prepaid meter is an avenue to tackle the issue of nonpayment of Bill in the state capital.

The National Vice President zone D, Chief Wilson Bako thanked the company for the shower of friendliness and courage to host the Correspondents ‘ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists.

Saying the Correspondents ‘ Chapel remains the most vibrant chapel in the NUJ.

He lauded the AEDC over the improvement in electricity in some part of the state capital, attributing the improvement to the recent stakeholders meeting held at Lafia square by the National Electricity Regulatory Commission, Abuja Electricity Distribution company, and consumers.
