Over 337,474 Cataract Patients Received Free Eye Drugs In Jigawa In The Last 7 Years By Umar Faruq Usman Dutse

16th, day of October was set aside to be a world blood pressure day, by world health organization in which the  Jigawa state ministry of health has joined other state of the federation in celebrating the day where by all health facilities in the state keep on testing the blood pressure meant to curtail the spreading of the menace.

Our Correspondent, looks over the significant of the day and visited state general hospital to gather the information and eventually interview the state commissioner for health Alhaji Dr. Tafida Abubakar,  who said over twenty two per cent of Nigeria citizenry are hypertensive   saying that this makes them to redouble their efforts towards sensitizing the general public and also to screen the people with high blood pressure, which has a very significant especially at rural area where people are lacking awareness of the importance of checking their blood pressure.

He said hypertension can cause diabetes, kidney and liver problems, among other chronic diseases, considering the havoc of the problem; this made them to assist patients with free hypertension drugs, as one of the measures in curtailing the spread of the problem.

According to the State Commissioner for Health, Jigawa State has over 600 health facilities for treating people with problems of high blood Pressure.

In a related development, the state government has also celebrated world sight day at Sir Ahmadu Bello Hall  at the State Secretariat Dutse In which the  theme of this year’s programme is no more avoidable  blindness

During the occasion various health scholars have expressed their mind, the coordinator of the eye care and surgeon  in the state Aminu Abdulrahaman Umar said from 2007 to date Jigawa State government has treated over 333,747 people cataract cases in the state
