Director-General (DG), of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Malam Sani Sidi, has confirmed that over 300,000 Internally Displaced People’s are scattered across states in country.
He reiterated that the Federal Government war against Boko Haram insurgence is gradually achieving greater result.
Sidi state this yesterday at the EYN Church in Jos, during the presentation of relief materials to thousands of Internally Displaced Persons (IDP’s), driving out of their settlements from the Nigeria’s North Eastern region.
The DG who was represented by his deputy director training Alhaji Iyiola Akande, said: “Very soon the war against insurgents will Inshaa Allah be won, with the new committed efforts of the Federal Government and its security strategy.”
Sidi noted record that there were IDP’s, from the North East, residence here in Jos and on the Plateau.
He said NEMA is in the state to present to the IDP’s some basic materials that will give comfort to their feeding, accommodation and living.
The EYN coordinator of the IDP’s who is also the Chairperson of an NGO, the Center for Caring, Empowerment and Peace Initiative, Mrs. Rebecca Dali, told NEMA that there were 1,515 household, which put up the total number of 19,515 individual IDP’s in under her watch.
She said there were records of over 8,000 widows in their assessment, stressing further that “386 new babies were given birth, “
Rebecca assured NEMA that the materials will be judiciously distributed to the IDP’s.
“Our challenges have been feeding and clothing, but now that NEMA have brought we will have enough to give them, and we appreciated the assistance.
In his words NEMA’s zonal coordinator for North Central Malam Muhammad Abdussalam, had told journalists that the agency is discouraging camping of IDP’s, and therefore it is identifying with organizations who are supporting the IDP’s to distribute the items to them.
He said:”There are about 35,000 IDP’s situated across various places in the state, we will equally give materials to the Stefanus Foundation, there are also IDP’s in Babale, Rikkos, Dangi, Wase and other places which we will all give the materials to them.”
Our correspondent gathered that 21 household items that included rice, beans, guinea corns, cooking oils, maize, clothes, blankets, mattress and others full of trailers were off loaded for distribution.
