Over 200 Protesters Attacked Our Station, Looted Ammunition, Personal Effects, During ENDSARS – DPO

A Divisional Police Officer on Thursday told the END SARS Panel sitting in Ado-Ekiti how about 200 protesters attacked his division at  Ikere Ekiti, headquarters of Ikere Local Government.

Teuben Ayinla recalled how his men displayed high level of professionalism in averting casualty during the ensued melee.

 

The Police boss said himself and other officers lost personal belonging when irate mob set the station ablaze after vandalising all property inside.

The former Ikerre DPO, now DPO Omuo Ekiti said on Oct. 19, 2020, only about 200 of the protesters visited the station that they wanted to see the DPO,

“I came out to appeal to them and spoke with them in a peaceful manner and they also promised to protest peacefully.

“But on Oct. 20, 2020 at 10.30 a.m, over 2,000 protesters came with the intention to attack our station,

 

” I again spoke to my men to take things easy with them, and since the protesters saw that our officers were not ready to attack them, they chased them and vandalized the whole station.

 

“Most of our personal property were vandalized including my uniform,  2 personnel vehicle, 10 exhibit vehicles were vandalized including Takoma Hilux.

 

“My personal belongings stolen, were four pairs police uniform valued N40,000, phone N40,000 office TV, N40,000, startime decoder N8,000, two pairs of police shoes N14,000 ceremonial cap N12,000, camp bed N12,500, police belt N5,000, beret Cap N3000, standing fan N10,000, all with a  total valued N184,500,

 

He however said while appearing before the Ekiti State Judicial Panel of inquiry into allegations of police brutality that his men were able to safeguard every official ammunitions during during the period the attack lasted.

 

According to him, only two damaged ammunition were stolen, but the whole Station was vandalized by the protesters, including  his uniforms which was burnt down while a saw was used by the protesters to cut down all the trees providing sheds in the station.
