Osun 2026: Indigenes Urge APC To Zone Governorship Ticket To Osogbo

The indigenes of Osogbo, capital of Osun State have called on All Progressive Congress (APC), to zone its Governirship ticket for the 2026 gubernatorial election to Osogbo.

The indigenes under the aegis of Coalition of Osogbo Youth and Women’s Groups said Osogbo deserves to be considered for the governorship ticket to produce the next Governor of Osun State.

Speaking on behalf of the groups, Barrister Abdulrahman Okunade and Mr Olushola Abass said Osogbo indigenes are united in the demand and that the coalition has spent months engaging traditional leaders, community elders, youth organisations, business leaders, and civic groups on it.

The coalition said for years, Osogbo has been central in determining electoral outcomes in this state and that the recently updated voter registration in Osun State, through the Continuous Voter Registration has resulted in 1,954, 800 registered voters in which Osogbo and Olorunda have 300,000 registered voters, which represent 15% of the total registration in the state.

The coalition urged APC leadership to give thoughtful priority to aspirants of Osogbo origin, saying that presenting an Osogbo-born candidate strengthens the party’s electoral prospects and affirms Osogbo’s longstanding contribution to the APC’s success.

The coalition said the demand is directed specifically to the All Progressives Congress the two other major political parties in the state, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have already reserved their governorship tickets for Osun West Senatorial District.

The coalition said it’s ready to work with APC leadership to support a united, well organised and coordinated community-rooted campaign if it select a candidate from Osogbo.

Prominent Osogbo-birn lawyer, Barrister Kunle Rasheed Adegoke, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria is vying for the APC Governorship ticket for the Osun 2926 Governirship election.
