Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma said the dredging of the Orashi River will stimulate economic growth in the South East.
Governor Uzodimma stated during a tour of the river with officials of the state government and the Nigerian Navy. The Federal Government approved the dredging of the Orashi river from Oguta lake to improve access for the Nigerian Navy to freely navigate the waterways.
Embarking on a tour of the area, the Governor expressed confidence that the project, when completed, will not only improve Naval operations but will also serve as a source of economic revitalization.
The Nigerian Navy led by the Group Managing Director and Chief Executive of the Nigerian Navy Holdings Limited Rear Admiral Sileranda Lassa expressed readiness to partner with the State government in harnessing the potential of the maritime environment.
It is hoped that the dredging of the Orashi river will boost the multi-stakeholder effort to eliminate crude oil theft, pipeline vandalism, sea piracy, and other maritime crimes.
