The present administration says it will sustain its efforts at creating the enabling environment for youths in the state to continue to discover, develop and maximize their potentials in governance and entrepreneurship.

Gov Willie Obiano who spoke at Cana House in Awka during a one-day 2016 International Youths Day Celebration symposium in the state with the theme- “the road to 2030; eradicating poverty and achieving sustainable consumption and production”, organised for youths by the State’s Ministry of Youths Entrepreneurship and Sports Development, noted that having recognized the strategic role of youths in nation building, his administration has given them opportunities in the state governance.

With participants comprising leaders of youth groups across various organizations- Faith-based, Community-based, Voluntary and Government, the Symposium witnessed  sessions that provided the opportunity for interaction between the government and the youths aimed at encouraging participatory governance.

In his remarks while declaring the event open, Gov Obiano said through its four key development pillars, his administration has created activities that have generated job and wealth opportunities for youths in the state while several programmes have been initiated to empower them towards effective self-development.

He therefore urged the youths to utilize the enabling environment provided by government to explore ventures that will impact positively on the society.

In a paper titled “Patriotism, Advocacy, Volunteering and Empowerment; keys to self-development “, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Social Media, Chief Ifeanyi Aniagor  urged youths to be the agent of the change they want to see in the society.

In another presentation,  the Special Assistant to the governor on Fisheries,  Mr Emeka Iloghalu said with the quality attention the state government is giving the youths,  the onus lies on them not to be good ambassadors of the state and not engage in acts that will discourage Government from engaging youths in future.

The State Chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, Comrade Frank Maduka commended the initiative to get the youth in tune with the government  and advocated proper planning of government’s youth empowerment packages to reach the actual youths they were designed for.

A youth activist, Comrade Ezekiel Nwokoye and the State Youth leader,  Girl Guides Association of Nigeria, Miss Chinasa Alakwe commended the symposium initiative and said it will help build the ideal Anambra youths who are conscious of their roles towards the development of the state.
