Chairman, National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) ,Plateau state council Alh Yusha’u Mohammed has advocated for the total banning of illegal motor parks and punishment to defaulters across the state.
The NURTW Chairman gave the hint to our correspondent in his office at Dadin Kowa, Jos south Local Government Area on Tuesday.
He said the state government has lost billions of Naira from illegal Moto Parks Operators in less than seven months.
According to him,the springing up of illegal motor parks are responsible for the low revenue generation and high rates of criminal activities in the state.
Mohammed advised state government to collaborate with the NURT Plateau chapter in the area of revenue generation toward boosting the revenue profile in local governments.
Henceforth, he wants drivers in the state to continue to pay tax through Local governments.
Mohammed vowed that no drivers would be allowed to obtain a license from other states outside because of that. One of the problems we experienced is non remittance of tax by motorists here in Plateau State, he said.
“What we need in Plateau state now is to ensure that from Jos North to Jos South we want five motor parks only, to enable us to monitor all motorists and then identify criminals as well as increase our revenue base.
Mohammed explained that, the union had written to Governor Simon Lalong for a courtesy call to him regarding the problem of the illegal motor park because if the illegal motor parks continues to exist, it will also affect the revenue profile, he said we want a situation where if a driver enters a motor park he or she can pay revenue to government and that money will go to local government .
He added that those who pick passengers on highways are responsible for the poor revenue profile of the association and are not adding any development rather than killing the state.
The Sardauna Gabas and Dan iyan mun , Mohammed congratulated National the National President Najeem Usman Yasin for bagging the traditional title of Makaman Gusau which the said it would spur him to contribute to the development of the emirates council.
He expressed confidence in the ability of the NURTW president in the area of management of conflict within the union and Nigeria .
