NUJ Plateau Chapter Condemns Attacks On Media Practitioners Protest States, Fed Govt Action

The Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Plateau State Chapter under the leadership of Mr. Paul Jatau has protested the incessant attack, impunity and constant harassment of journalists ,media organizations across the country .

The former Chairman of NUJ ,Plateau State Council ,Mr Katdapba Gobum says ,we are appealing to states and federal government to effectively take up measures toward protecting journalists and to fully implement the African declaration on freedom of expression.

He said the implement of the principles of freedom of expression in Africa which clearly stated that no one shall subject arbitrary, arrest, or interfere with his or her with the fundamental freedom of expression.

All the Media organizations across the state came with placards of various inscriptions, enough is enough, stop intimidation of journalists, we are not in military era, enough of impunity and muzzling Press and democracy, we will resist efforts to muzzle and the protesters include members of veteran journalists.

He thanked all the members for the solidarity with ourselves for all of us who are journalists to protest the arrest ,intimidation ,faults accusation on our colleagues across the country against their professional duty were security would detent members who are planning to balance their report.

Gobum condemned the a situation where some miscreants bugled Daily Sun ,The Nation others in Plateau state two days ago ,as he appeal to Nigeria state to be worry of how they security personnel treat journalists while carrying out their duties .

He called on state governors, federal government to ensure that Nigeria state move forward the have to protect media practitioners who are going about their legitimate business reporting the illegality of the society.

Katdapba Gobum urged the government to urgently do something about the current attacks, arresting of members of fourth estate of the society ,we are not enemies of the police ,soldiers or the government but we are credible partner so we should be consider Nigerian .

He said we are trying to reach out to the society on what is happening to our states and the country.

Meanwhile, the vice Chairman, Mr Benjamin Mitu who spoke on behalf of the state council said the peaceful demonstration is to call the attention of the entire world on the recent unprovoked attacks to media organizations across the country.

He frowns that some of our colleagues are in detention who performing their duty to investigate events before going to press are harass killed by unknown gun men .

According to him, Nigeria journalists had work very hard to return this country to the path of democracy yet they are intimidated injured.
