NSHA Shower Encomium On LG, Judiciary Autonomy

The Nasarawa State House of Assembly has showered encomium on the need for the independence of the Judiciary and the local government system, the Speaker, Rt Hon Ibrahim Balarabe Abdullahi has disclosed.

The speaker gave the hint when members of the Nigeria Labour Congress north-central zone storm the assembly complex seeking the unalloyed support of the house for the judiciary and the third tier of government to be free.

Balarabe while addressing the mammoth crowd of workers cut across the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria, the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees, the Parliamentary Association of Nigeria, the Nigeria Civil Service Union and amongst others.

The speaker said the lawmakers are in full support of the independence of the judiciary as well as the local government system which is in dire need of redemption.

“The struggle for autonomy of the judiciary, local government independence, and the legislature is our struggle and we must fight it to the end to ensure that what belongs to you is given to you.”.

He said now is the right time the agitators are pushing for independence, he, in addition, maintained that the agitation for the autonomy of local government will be feasible as soon as the assembly received a message from the National Assembly, NLC should consider it done.

The state chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress, comrade Yusuf Iya thanked the lawmakers for being friendly to the workers at all times, saying members of NLC come from the seven states of the federation including the Federal Capital Territory.

“We are here today advocating for your support as we have 100 support of the National Assembly, stating that autonomy is key to transparency while the absence of autonomy leads to corruption.

“According to the NLC chairman, “section 110 stated that a member will be recalled by the electorate, especially if any lawmaker opposed the move for the autonomy of the judiciary and local government “.

Onuh Johnson Udoka, the chairman of Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees, Kogi state chapter appreciates the speaker for his unflinching support for the realization of the struggle.

Saying the autonomy is a key to freedom to the assembly also, adding that local government is purely a demand for administration and finance.
