NSCDC seeks measures to protect national infrastructure in Lagos

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) says it has put measures in place to protect national infrastructure.

The state’s Commandant of NSCDC, Mr Sunday Keshinro, disclosed this in Lagos  on Thursday at the 4th edition of the command’s PR clinic.

Keshinro said that the essence of the programme was to continue to sensitise its personnel and members of the public on NSCDC’s role in the area of critical infrastructure and national assets.

He said that was why the PR clinic gathered all relevant stakeholders to discuss on how to further strategise and continue upscaling strategy for the protection of critical infrastructure and national assets in Lagos state.

Speaking in a panel session of the PR clinic, Police Spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, said that anyone could protest to express displeasure over an issue.

However, Hundeyin said that such protesters must notify the police for protection from touts.

He said that protest was guaranteed by the court but must be peaceful and not obstruct free movement of people.

Also, Mr Felix Ogunmade, a Barrister,  said that there was freedom of expression and protest was one of the means of expression.

According to Ogunmade, protest happens but arises from situations to expresses displeasure.

“Criminality comes in when properties are being damaged and lives lost”.

He said that people who called for protests were genuine people, but some persons would want to hijack the demonstrations for different reasons.

He was of the opinion that if communities were well engaged and enlightened, they would step up to stop vandalism.
