  • Condemned Percentage Payment, Sympathises With Nasarawa Workers

The Peoples Democratic Party in Nasarawa state has condemned the unabated percentage payment paid to workers, the position of the party was contained in a press statement signed by the state publicity Secretary of the party, Mohammed U. Bwala dated 31st January 2017 and made available to universalreporters247.com.

The party expressed dismay over the current plight of workers which made them to be beggars struggling for survival, the PDP also expressed concerned over the complete demoralization and subsequent collapse of civil service since the assumption of office by APC.

“The engine room of government is suffering from untold hardship ranging from lack of recruitment, training, retraining, payment of salaries and allowances”.

The PDP alleged that governor, Umaru Tanko Al-Makura warehoused N2.7bn from the N8, 000,000,000bn received from the central government from the Paris/London club refund.

“N2.7bn was warehoused to augment statutory allocation to the state to enable hundred percent payment of salary; amazingly, barely one month after his pronouncement workers in this January 2017 would either be paid in percentage or will have to wait till February 2017 to collect January salary”.

The opposition party insisted that the N2.7bn been warehoused by governor Al-Makura is still available for use, the PDP called on the leadership of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly to live up to their constitutional responsibilities by checkmating the chief executive.

Stating that checks and balances by the lawmakers would ensure good governance in the state, the party challenged governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura to direct his finance commissioner to give vivid details of where and how this money is kept and expended to the people .

The Nasarawa State chapter of the PDP identified percentage payment across the thirteen local governments as a systematic and institutional collapse of government activities.

“The systemic collapse has reached its climax to the extent that a blind man can fell and sniff it, the deplorable condition of workers in our state is so pathetic that they are reduced to beggars, Mohammed Bwala writes.
