Nollywood actress Laide Bakare has dismissed claims that she mocked her colleague, Biola Bayo, following the latter’s recent announcement of her marital separation.
The controversy began after Bakare shared a video of herself dancing on Instagram, accompanied by a caption that read, “All of us will eat breakfast. Asiko lo ma ya to. Good morning people.”
The phrase is commonly used in Nigerian social media circles to reference heartbreak or relationship issues, leading many online users to interpret the post as a subtle jab at Biola Bayo’s situation.
However, Laide Bakare has come forward to clarify that her post was not aimed at Biola. Responding to the backlash in a video posted on Friday, she explained that the timing was purely coincidental and had nothing to do with her colleague’s personal life.
Addressing her critics, she said, “Bad commenters and trolls associations, something must be wrong with you. Please let us all be guided. It is still June 5th here in California to be precise. I can never shade my own sister Biola Bayo. My prayers are with you. I didn’t get any updates. I was busy with my daughter’s graduation. Trolls are evil.”
Laide emphasized that she had no knowledge of Biola’s divorce announcement when she made the post, insisting her focus was entirely on celebrating her daughter’s academic milestone.
Earlier in the week, Biola Bayo had confirmed her separation from her husband, Oluseyi, stating they had gone their separate ways since April and would continue to co-parent their child peacefully.
