No Staff from Dash Went On Strike over Lassa Fever Outbreak——–CMD

The Chief Medical Director of Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital Yakubu Ashuku has debunked rumour of a strike action embarked by the staffs of the hospital over the outbreak of Lassa fever; the CMD gave the hint during a press briefing at the weekend.

Dr. Ashuku called on the public to disregard the widely spread rumor, he however asserted that the management of the specialist hospital did not embark on any separate strike.

“This not the first time we are having or treating cases of Lassa fever in DASH which is a seasonal occurrence, the death of one of our dedicated staff ” Ibrahim Oshafu” who died of Lassa fever was not because of inadequate arrangement as spreaded ,Is a misinformation”.

Calling on the general public to avoid bodily fluid contact as the only way to curb the spread of the disease, While fielding question on the recent Lassa fever carriers that were discharged during the ongoing total strike by the organized labour, he affirmed that one of the victim died and the other carrier admitted at a private hospital has been discharged.

He identified absence of isolation in hospital in the state as a major constraint faced by medical personnel in the state, Dr. Ashuku stated that the ailment is not an airborne disease, Saying eighty (80%) percent of Lassa fever victims survive.

“No case of any residual complacency, he further said people with cases of Lassa fever are placed on surveillance where the hospital dictates body temperature”. he however said another female victim from one of the media outfit has also recuperated from the disease.

Dr. Yakubu Ashuku opined that personal protective equipment and drugs were made available to the hospital by the state Government, The medical director said.

While shedding more light on the breakthrough by the Government of Nasarawa state , He affirmed that arrangement is on the pipeline for the establishment of Isolation centre in the state.
