- Challenges Media To Be Patriotic In Discharge Of Their Duties
Governor Jonah Jang of Plateau state has said that nobody could correctly blame him for crises in Jos or any part of Plateau State as the crises pre-dated his becoming governor of the state.
Jang who became governor in 2007 said crises around Plateau State started during the military era and that critics blaming him for the crises that the state has experienced even in the years that he has been governor were being unfair to him as he has no hands in any of them.
Jang who spoke yesterday at the Governors Lodge in the Jishe area of the state capital, Jos, during his mid second term Media Interaction said people had been blaming him unfairly for crises he neither caused nor exercised control over as he has no power to command the security agencies which owe their allegiance to federal authorities in Abuja.
Jang who remarked that no crisis could be won through the barrel of the gun, stressed that his administration would continue to dialogue with relevant stakeholders to consolidate on the peace which he said the state currently enjoys
Meanwhile the state Governor Jonah David Jang charged Nigerian media to continue to work for the sustenance of democracy and a united Nigeria.
Jang stated that at this point of our history what the nation needs is calming agitated nerves as well as promoting harmony and understanding in the body polity and not over heating it by encouraging and propelling those issues that divide us.
According to him “as it has been said by many well-meaning Nigerian, lets promote those things that bind and build us as a people and nation”.
He appealed to journalists to continue to uphold high patriotic values as they remain a moral compass for the society
Jang who described Journalists as partners in the Plateau Project, stressing that they owe it a duty to demonstrate responsible and developmental driven journalism for the attainment of this collective goal.
Speaking on the current row in the PDP as a result of the leadership of the NGF, he described it as politically motivated from some quotas ahead of 2015 intrigues but said it will soon be a thing of the past. According to him he has been in touch with Governor Amechi to see reasons why they can con not disagree on the issue for long.
Governor Jang also appeal to his political Appointees to always make their doors open to Newsmen at all times
