Nigeria and their lawmakers

Imran Hassan

Nigeria is a country blessed with talented and highly intellectual minds, rich mineral resources, vast land, rich cultures and diverse ethno-tribes. But the major problem that Nigerian is facing is lack of selfless and committed leader who will take them to the promise land. Gone are days that selfless leaders go to the public service to serve and not to be served, to give and not to take but the reverse is the case today whereby the public funds are misused by the lawmakers and other government officials.

The lawmakers contributed a lot to the problem that the masses are confronting – Hon Abdulmumin Jibrin of recent blow the whistle of misappropriation of funds by some principal officers. Imagine how the lawmakers appropriate the people’s money to themselves!

Debo Adesina said in his Monday columm that,” Nigeria cannot begin the journey to progress unless we strip all public offices of all material attractions and institutionalize a culture of service.” Therefore, if that is implemented it would paved way for the selfless leader to emerge who will sacrifice his judious time for the public advancement.

The masses today are living in abject poverty and hunger. This hardship have push many Nigerians to stealing of food, kidnapping and other crimes. However, some traders are taking the advantage of the economic recession to skyrockets the price of goods to make life unbearable for people. As the lawmakers are about to resume from the official break, they should kindly design and present bills that would alleviate the economic hardship. The traders should fear God and stop inflicting hardship on their customers. The federal government as matter of urgency should kindly resolve the hunger crisis in the country.
