NGO Elects New Leaders To Address Issues Of Maternal Mortality Rate

ARFH-small2A Nongovernmental organisation, Association for Reproductive and Family Health, has  trained over three hundred people on how to sensitize community members on the importance of attending anti-natal care, post-natal,  child spacing, reducing the spreading of diarrhoea, malaria, among other diseases.

National coordinator, Association for reproductive and family health and  Project manager, Expanding supply marketing project in Nigeria, Alhaji Aliyu Jibril Guraguri, has called on wives and husbands, to redouble their effort towards breast feeding of their children at least for six months without given them water, as this wil make them have a healthy family in the society.

Aliyu Guraguri expressed his dismay even as he urged community members to wake up in curtailing the menace of the spreading cholera diseases, considering the fact that Nigeria is in the second position among countries with highest rate of cholera, he said.

He advised traditional leaders, philanthropists, and wealthy individuals, to join hands in sensitizing the public how to assist their wives in child spacing, and malaria and diarrhoea control from the grassroots.

Hajiya Aisha Halliru Haruna, who is the Jigawa state coordinator of the association, said that they will ensure that all community based distribution agents, must abide by instructions given to them, saying that they are not allow to treat people as a health workers or doctors, rather than to advice them to attend nearest health facility.

She commended the effort of Jigawa state government for the cooperation given to them while discharging their responsibilities in the state, saying that expanded supply marketing project in Nigeria, (ESMPIN) would end this year.

Reproductive officer Gunduma health system Jigawa state, Hajiya Saudatu Abdullahi, urged women to breastfeed their children, as it contains all nutrients required.

She called on rural dwellers to attend health facilities, and to avoid self medication, as well as imbibe the culture of child spacing, which will enable women to improve their living standard.

Over three hundred members attended the meeting held at the state library in Dutse, Community based distribution agents also elected new leaders that will lead the association temporarily.
