NEMA moves To Mitigate Flood Disaster, Advices On Proper Disposal Of   Waste Management

nema-logoThe National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) said, the agency is not living any stone unturned in its renew commitment to mitigate flood disaster in view of the current heavy rainfall.

This is as the agency has also adviced residents on the proper disposal of waste management in their respective communities to avoid the wrath of flood disaster

NEMA Director General Muhammed Sani Sidi made the statement through Gombe Zonal head operation Saidu Ahmed Minin in a one day workshop in Bauchi, as he said the agency is compel to identify risk communities which are prone so as to mitigate flood disaster.

The theme of the workshop according to the NEMA boss is strengthening flood risk awareness and incorporating mitigation into development and relief project/ management of solid and liquid waste in the contest of Flood mitigation

Sidi added that the workshop is aimed to inculcate the habit of waste management and control, environmental standards, need for strengthening flood risk awareness as well as carrying campaign among vulnerable communities through NIMET.

He had noted that flood can only be prevented with the combine support and cooperation of resident through various preventive measures relating to proper drainage, proper waste disposal among others

The agency had lamented that lack of effective/efficient solid and liquid waste management system has been responsible for flood disaster and the need for stakeholder’s collaboration of other government agencies for creating awareness against flood

The participants were drawn from political, religious groups, traditional institutions as well as NGO’s, public and private individuals including Nigeria Red Cross that cut-across Bauchi state.

The agency urged the participants to avail themselves with the knowledge of flood mitigation with a view to extending  same to their respective communities.
