NCWS: President Harps On Women Leaders In Tackling Gender Based Violence

The Plateau State Branch of the National Council for Women Societies has concluded a two-day intensive leadership training for leaders of its various groups, affiliates and members with a resolve to headlong combat drug abuse and it’s menace in their societies.

A communiqué issued at the end of a four-day strategic leadership training to leaders of National Council for Women Societies in Plateau State at St . John College Jos from 19th to 22nd August 2025, signed by Mrs Celina Ali, President NCWS, Plateau State and Esther Nasara, Chairperson Publicity and Protocol Committee, was made available to this medium.

The maiden event, which is a fallout from an earlier attended National leadership training in Lagos, was held at the Saint John’s College, Jos, and was well attended by representatives from the 17 local government areas of the state.

The power packed event put together by the state Chapter of the National Council for Women Societies was in  collaboration with the State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development as well as offices of the  wives of the 17 local government Council Chairmen.

Topics covered during the two day intensive training include; The Role of Women Leaders as Mentors to the Younger Generation by Dr Gad Shamaki, Etiquette by Dr Plangsat Dayil, and Human Trafficking by Commissioner of Women Affairs and Social Development Mrs Caroline Dafur.

Other powerful presentations include; The Role of Women Leaders in Tackling Gender Based Violence by Chairperson Gender and Equal Opportunity  Commission Barr. Olivia Dazyem and Bill’s Concerns Women and Children and How to Handle Them Legislatively by Commissioner Information and Communications Hon. Joyce Ramnap.

In a compilation of knowledge acquired and production of a strategic framework plan, the leaders of the various shades of the National Council for Women Societies in Plateau state resolved to collectively prioritize the fight against drug abuse, following its devastating effect on the future generation.

They equally agreed to urgently summon a stakeholders forum at the local government areas of the state to address the increasing rate of child trafficking, which specifically is affecting areas experiencing attacks from enemies of the state.

The forum of Women leaders passed a vote of confidence on  the Plateau state governor Barr. Caleb Mutfwang for being responsive to issues of child trafficking in the state by rescuing the Plateau children from across the world and restoring them back to their homes.

They unanimously commended the governor for being gender sensitive through the careful selection and appointment of women is key positions of leadership, which they affirmed is yielding a lot of dividends for the people of the state especially women, youth and children.

Along with the key paper presenters, the forum of Women leaders vowed to facilitate action on areas of concern that have become cancerous to particular local government areas and work with relevant authorities to nip the menace in the bud.
