National Council Of Muslim Youth Organisations Calls For Thorough Investigation Into Rukubu-Road Massacre

Yakubu Ventim

The National Council of Muslim Youth Organisation, NACOMYO, has called for a thorough investigation to unravel the culprits behind the unprovoked deliberate massacre of unarmed innocent Travelers in Jos.

Malami  Ali Ali State secretary for NACOMYO, Plateau state in a statement in Jos on Sunday said the council received with shock and utmost dismay the gruesome manner by which unarmed innocent Muslim faithful traveling was attacked and killed in cold blood in Gada biyu Rukuba Road area of Jos North LGA by irate youths who are bent to continuously spill the blood of the innocents and cause mayhem in the state.

The victims of this barbaric and inhumane attack were just innocent passersby who were returning from Bauchi after attending an Islamic activities that marked the Islamic New Year in the convoy of five 18 seater Hummer Buses and are not even citizens of Plateau State. They met their death in the hands of some blood-sucking and wicked conflict merchants.

This is happening at a time when the State Government is still finding ways of restoring lasting peace in the State as a result of incessant communal clash and destruction of properties.

It is on this note that we call on the Plateau State Government and security agencies to as a matter of urgency look into the series of criminal attacks against individuals and communities in the state in order to come out with a lasting solution.

Furthermore, this inhumane and barbaric act must stop and Plateau State Government in collaboration with the relevant security agencies should intensify efforts to arrest the perpetrators and their possible sponsors and deal with them in accordance with the relevant provisions of the law.

The Council wishes to commend the prompt response by the Nigerian Police, Plateau State Command, Operation Safe Haven and other sister security agencies for the good work and the proactive efforts to ensure no reprisal attack happened in other parts of the state capital and its surroundings.

We call on all Muslim Youths in: Jos North, Jos South, Bassa, and all parts of the State to remain calm, law-abiding and committed to upholding Islamic teachings of seeing all human beings as sacred creatures of God. Promote peaceful coexistence with their neighbours who do not attack them irrespective of: tribes, religion or political affiliation. We should continue to treat them as Brothers/Sisters in line with the teachings of Islam.

We further urge all citizens of the State, particularly the Muslim Ummah to be vigilant and report any suspicious individuals or objects in their respective communities to the relevant security agencies.

While we commend the effort of the Plateau State Government in it’s resolve to tackle insecurity in the State, we also urge them to trace the families of the said victims and condole them and to compensate them adequately for the loss of their family members and those who are injured too should not be left behind. As for the rescued ones, they should also be transported back to their respective States.

May Allah (SWT) enrich our hearts to love our fellow human beings and to treat them with kindness.
