Nasarawa State University Lecturers Begin Total Strike

The Academic Staff Union of Universities ( ASUU)Nasarawa State University ,Keffi has declared a total strike after exhausting the three weeks ultimatum given to the state Government to meet its demand.

ASUU, Nasarawa State University, chapter on Monday 7th March, 2016 declared a total strike that will continue until all issues raised are resolved, The Union in a press statement at the end of the meeting directed that “no lecture, no supervision, no field trip /workshop should take place.

Other directives was that no defense whether internal or external, no weekend lecture , no sub degree lecture , no practical , no conference on campus , no external examination.

Academic Staff Union also ordered that there will be no ceremonial activity such as convocation and matriculation involving academic staff and academic staff in library and that ICT will not render services.

The release also states that no statutory meetings at all levels – senate, faculty , department, and subcommittee” involving members ASUU of the institution while members holding positions as Council members , deans , head of department” not to attend statutory meetings called by the management of the school.

ASUU also instructed members not to supervise students or perform any engagement whether official or private with students of all cadres, The Union is demanding payment of backlog of earned Allowances and the repositioning of the university’s infrastructure.

It would be recalled that the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Paramount rulers in spite of their intervention to avert the ongoing strike action hit bricks wall, The state Commissioner of Education, Hajiya Rahmatu Ajuji Abubakar could not be reached for comment as at press time.
