Nasarawa State Expended N700m On The Construction Of Lafia Square–Works Commissioner By Rabiu Omaku, Lafia
The government of Nasarawa state has expended money to the tune of N700m for the construction of “state of the art Lafia Square, The state commissioner of Works, Housing and Transport, Engr.Yahaya Wada has disclosed.
The commissioner gave the affirmation in an exclusive interview with Journalist at his office, Engr.Wada unravelled that the state government spend a whooping N2.2bn on 63km Panda-Gitata road project, A project conceived but not completed by the regime.
He opined that the construction work was handed over by a giant construction firm, Tonkey And Allied Coy, If not in Nasarawa and Al-Makura the project would consume more than N1bn,Nasarawa state is the only state that award contracts at an exorbitant prices,” Said Yahaya Wada.
The commissioner while given vivid detail of the commitment of the APC administration in the area of road construction affirmed that a lot has been achieved in the area of urban and rural road network, He in addition said the incumbent government embarked on the rehabilitation of Obi-Keana road.
He however reiterated that a whooping N500m was expended on Obi-Keana road, Engr.Yahaya Wada maintained that new roads were open up in all the Local Government headquarters, affirming that vast of the road projects conceived by governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura are completed while others are at completion stage.
He said all the Local Governments benefited from 3-5 Km road network, speaking on the abandoned Doma-Agyaragu road, the commissioner attributed the delay in the abandoned project to a litigation which cost the state government N281m.
“The litigation emanated over disagreement between the main contractors (Golden Construction Coy) and sub-contractors handling the abandoned project “.
The commissioner when asked on the entire kilometre of road construction under the present administration declined comment, saying many roads were constructed, His action potent peril to the present regime that has invested a lot in rural and township road network.
The promise of Umaru Tanko Al-Makura to construct 2Km township road in Keana is a forgotten covenant, from indication with the chunk amount of money budgeted for road in the last four years, the money did not commensurate with available rural and urban roads.
Hon.Muhammed Muluku, chairman House committee on Works, Housing And Transport in the state House of Assembly accused the state governor for the inflation of road contract in the state, He alleged that Bids of Engineering Maintenance and Evaluation (BEME) was not respected in the area of contract like the Lafia Square, Fire Service headquarter and construction of schools.
