Nasarawa State Civil Service Commission Promotes Over 1000 Workers

Rabiu Omaku

The ongoing impasse between the government of Nasarawa State and the Organized Labour that lead to over one month strike is not an exercise in futility as over one thousand workers were promoted.

Musa Dangana, the chairman Civil Service Commission stated this during an interview with selected Journalists at the commission.

The chairman said the mass promotions carried out by the state government are in fulfillment of treaty reached with the Organized Labour in the state.

Urging workers in the state to remain calm and committed to their responsibility, he identified the ongoing strike as a serious impediment to the snail movement of the assignment bestowed on the commission.

He faulted ministries, agencies and Departments for the delay in the submissions of briefs as another hiccups affecting the exercise, calling for prompt actions by heads of MDA to comply for necessary actions.

“Office of Head of Service, submitted over 2,600 briefs and out of this numbers about 950 were promoted, other beneficiaries of the promotion are the Nasarawa State Agricultural Development Project and ministry of Water Resource.

“There are circumstances that civil servants may enjoy two or triple promotions”.

“We inherited a lot of complaints and petitions when we assumed office in September 2016, attributing the absence of substantive commission as the reason for the non-promotion of workers in the state from 2012 to to date.

While fielding question on the non-conduct of promotion examination since the creation of the state in 1996, Musa Dangana averred that all is set for the conduct of promotion examination by January 2018.

“Promotions are usually January and July, for now we will ensure that all backlogs of promotions are exhausted then every other promotion would be through examination, he added.

Giving the assurance that all workers in the state would benefit from the gesture.

Neither the Head of service nor the state commissioner of finance would be reached for comments on the implementation of the promotion.
