Nasarawa REC Suspends Permanent Voters Registration/Contonious Voters Registartion Exercise In Nasarawa By Rabiu Omaku,Lafia
The resident electoral commissioner, Nasarawa state Ahmed Makama has announced the suspension of the distribution of permanent voter’s card and the continues voter’s Registration scheduled for 7th-9th of this month due to logistic problems.
The position of INEC was made known to Journalist in a press statement, The Head of Department of voters Education and Publicity; Abdullahi Ibrahim disclosed that the PVC was re-scheduled to 28th-30th November.
The statement further revealed that 3rd-8th of December was fixed for the CVR,In another vein, the Resident Electoral commissioner,Ahmed Makama has condemned the bad publicity meted on the commission by a political party in the state for conniving with politician by embarking on illegal voters registration .
The commissioner, Independent National Electoral commission challenge politicians (political party not named) for spreading rumor tantamount to destroy the commission, He gave the hint during a stakeholders meeting held at the commissions headquarter last week.
Makama cautioned politicians in the state not to involve themselves in the campaign of calumny,The resident commissioner debunked that either Electronic Machines known the by the commission’s staff were involved in an alleged fake registration of eligible voter’s card.
“On hearing this clue I invited our staff saddle with the responsibility of the custody of our ICT centre and we discover that our registration devices are intact”And to clear doubt from the minds of our people no INEC staff was involved,He added.
“The commission is in receipt of complaints over illegal registration of voters at Angwan Waya community in Gudi,Akwanga Local government area of the state,The matter is now in court and we are waiting for court verdict, I see no reason why politicians will paint the commission black”.
The police has arrested people suspected to be an accomplice in the fake registration exercise,It was confided that a Salon car with registration number DY54ABC was impounded at Angwan Waya,Gudi in Akwanga Local Government of the state.
Persons suspected to be involved in the illicit act also include the Lawmaker representing Akwanga West, Honorable Philip Gyunka for engrossment in illegitimate registration and issuance of voter card in the state.
The state chairman of the All Progressives Congress,Philip Tatari Shekwor gave the indication during a press conference held at the press centre, Lafia,Shekwor uttered discontentment over the act, which he described as an unwholesome act heralded by people suspected to be members of the People’s Democratic Party in the state.
The chairman also presented some pictures to cross section of journalist at the press conference.
