Nasarawa Police To Partner Hunters, Vigilante To Fight Crime In Hard To Reach Communities

The Nasarawa state Commissioner Of Police has sent a strong warning to merchants of evil in the state to change a new leaf or face the full wrath of the law.
The Commissioner, Mohammed Kura says the Nasarawa State command has taken bold steps to make the state unsafe for criminals by partnering local hunters and vigilante to combat criminality in hard to reach communities.
The CP disclosed this while addressing Newsmen at his office marking 21 days of his posting to the state, he said the partnership was necessitated by the alarming rate of kidnapping in Nasarawa North.
Kura raised alarm over the incessant kidnapping in Akwanga, Nasarawa Local Government Areas (LGAs) and some parts of the state.
He explained that the partnership had yielded results as two victims rescued from kidnappers recently in the state, he listed that the rescue of a female NYSC member was made possible through such partnership.
“Whenever we receive a report of a kidnapping in any area, we link up with them and beef up security in the area the crime happened to make the bush very hot for the kidnappers.
According to him, ‘though I am just three weeks old in the state, I discovered that there are some areas that are not easy for vehicles to enter.
“So, we diverse a means of policing the areas by partnering the Traditional Rulers, local hunters and vigilante from the areas.
“They are mostly from those communities, so partnering them would further ease our job towards ensuring adequate security of lives and property in the state,” he added.
He mentioned that some of the challenges confronting the state’s police command to includes; inadequate manpower, insufficient patrol vehicles among others.
The CP said that despite these challenges, they still have to manage what they have to properly police the state.
He commended the state government for supporting the police in the areas of accommodation, vehicles, but appealed that the state government should continue to assist them.
He said no arrest was made in respect to two cases of kidnapping in the state in the last two weeks.
He assured members of the public that already investigation is on, pointing to some suspects which by the grace of God would soon be arrested.
He, therefore, appealed to the public to always inform the police with relevant information about criminals and their activities in order to curtail crime in the state.
