The High Court sitting in Doma Local Government Area of Nasarawa State has fixed 20th November 2024 for the continuation of the matter of the internal rumpus that tears the Nasarawa State Chapter of the People’s Democratic Party apart.
The Presiding Judge, Bar Ibrahim Hassan Sham Shama gave the hint while entertaining the imbroglio in the Nasarawa State Chapter of the party.
Counsel to the twelve applicants, The Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Ishaq Mohammed Dikko speaking shortly after the adjournment averred that the State Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party, Hon. Francis Orogu violated the court order for not shifting Local Government Congress to November instead went ahead and conduct the election.
Which he said was a total disregard for court order.
“We filed a motion on 16/10/2024 seeking the court to set aside L G congress instead, The State Chairman of the party went ahead and conduct congresses across wards and Local Government levels”.
He added that the embattled Chairman of the PDP, Francis Orogu will be served with a notice of consequence of court.
According to Dikko SAN, “We filed a motion ex-parte on 22/10/2024 and subsequently a motion for substituted service and a Notice of Consequence of contempt.
Also, we filed a motion on 16/10/2024 seeking for the court to set aside ward and LG congresses and the matter was adjourned for hearing due to a letter served by Bar. M A Jacob whose stepmother’s burial is today vis a vis issues of intervention by Plateau State Governor which was hinged on resolving the lingering impasse.
Dikko said the development amounted to a contempt proceeding in which the party Chairman is liable to two years imprisonment
The Counsel to the Chairman, Bar. Olegede in his argument averred that no agreement was made between him and the Counsel to the twelve applicants, Telling the court that a motion was filed on 25th/9/2024 and the shifting of the congress was not an order of court restraining the State Chairman from conducting the ward and Local Government congresses rather was a request which was not granted.
He said the letter hinged on a request but not an order of court as he said he was also an advocate of an out-of-court settlement.
He however averred that the High Court sitting in Doma, The headquarters of Doma lacks the jurisdiction to entertain the matter as well as continue with the matter.
Olegede buttressed that further continuation of the matter in the same court can be described as a judicial rascality.
The Presiding Judge, Bar. Ibrahim Hassan Sham Shama on listening to both sides, adjourned the matter to 20th November 2024 for continuation.
It was a celebration galore by both parties after the mentioning of adjournment to 20 November 2024 which was 13 days after the expiration of the tenure of the current State Chairman of the party, Hon. Francis Orogu, Which some party supporters see as a great opportunity for the party and an end to the upheaval.
Recalling that the current Senator representing Nasarawa South Senatorial district, Senator Mohammed Ogoshi Onawo, The then Senator Suleiman Adokwe, Adamu Oyanki, Former State Secretary of the party, Hon Musa Elayo, an estwhile Minister of Justice, Sabo Keana, Mike Abdul, former Deputy Governor, Musa Sabo Karshi and other critical stakeholders of the party drag the party Chairman, the State Working Committee to court.
