Nasarawa NBA Raises Alarm Over Electoral Threat By Rabiu Omaku,Lafia

Nasarawa state chapter of the Nigeria Bar Association has outstretched anxiety over the nation’s electoral process, appealing on politicians to shun impunity in other to sustain the rule of law for accelerated development.
Gabriel Akaka, the NBA chairman gave the disclosure in his address at a one day workshop jointly organized by the NBA, Themed, sensitization on peaceful Election and Sustainable Development.
He said absence of free, fair and transparent election give rise  to the intensifying spate of insurgency in North-East ,The crisis that virtually battering the nation .
He identified Kidnapping, endemic corruption, brigandage poor leadership in every fabric of the nation, Adding all the anomalies lead to serious threat to the nation.
Calling on politicians and the electoral umpire to build confidence in the process by doing the right thing, “To ensure peaceful elections we have to do thing in consonance with our electoral laws by shunning impunity.
Saying the sensitization of the general public on the need for all eligible voters to vote at the 2015 general election through voter’s education, mobilization and election monitoring
Calling on government to proactively wrestle security issue to make the process realistic and hope that the peace accord signed by the presidential candidates of leading political parties is replicated and sustainable at state level.
Also speaking at the workshop, The Archbishop of Lafia diocese, Reverend Ishaya Audu decried the lapses of successive election way back 1959 to violence, corruption intimidation, ballot paper stuffing, ballot box snatching, and absence of logistic, personnel.
Other challenges he listed includes the use of private militia group, manipulation, absence of transparency, lack of equal condition for contestant, He in addition said in the past people’s mandate were endangered  and abuse.
The Arch-bishop of Lafia also listed some of the hiccups of last elections to clannish politics, testifying that politicians in Nigeria are selfish people in search of money instead of the country at heart.
