Nasarawa Judicial Commission Sacks 20 Striking Judicial Workers

The Nasarawa State Judicial Service Commission has dismissed 20 staff of the Judicial Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN), over their roles in the ongoing strike by the union in the state.

The dismissal was contained in a statement signed by Hafsat Turaki-Sanda, executive secretary of Nasarawa State Judicial Service Commission (JSC) in Lafia, yesterday.

Those dismissed were Jimoh Musa, JUSUN chairman in the state, other officials and other prominent members of the union.

The statement read: “Following a directive of the JSC, Justice Suleiman Dikko, Chief Judge (CJ) had approved the dismissal of 20 staff for physically assaulting the CJ on November 13”.

The statement however directed the dismissed staff to pick up their dismissal latters from the executive secretary of the Commission.

The statement added that the dismissed staff are advised to report to the state headquarters of the police, to answer questions on their roles on the attack of the CJ.

Other staff were directed to report and remain in their duty post during working hours or face similar dismissal.

When contacted, JUSUN chairman who spoke through the public relations officer of the union, Solomon Iyigulu, said that the union is currently on strike and none of them is aware of any dismissal.

He however denied assaulting the CJ and advised JUSUN members to continue to remain at home until they get further directive from the leadership of the union.

It would be recalled that the Nasarawa State chapter of JUSUN embarked on an indefinite strike action on November 13, to press home demands for better welfare.
