Nasarawa Govt Suspends Scholarship Board Executive Secretary, Abdul Wahab Over Diversion Of N8.7 Million-Investigation

Rabiu Omaku

Nasarawa State government has announced the suspension of the Executive Secretary of the Nasarawa State Scholarship Board, Suleiman Abdul Wahab over the missing remnant of the 2014-2015 bursary allowance.

The position of the state government was made known in a press statement made available to Journalists and signed by the Secretary to the State Government. Bar. Abdullahi Mohammed.

An investigation conducted by universalreporters247.com revealed that the Executive Secretary of the Nasarawa State Scholarship Board was reported to have been detained for 48 hours before he was released from the custody of the Criminal Investigation Department (CIID) at the weekend.

The trouble started following a letter emanating from the office of the Director Admin and Supply, Stephen Dogo dated 04, October 2017 demanding for the refund of N8.7 million.

It was reliably gathered that Suleiman Abdul Wahab was quizzed over the whereabouts of N8.7 Million being part of the N100 million released by governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura as bursary allowance for 2014-2015.

An insider from CIID said the Executive Secretary was given seven days to provide necessary documents over the controversial N8.7million which was part of the unclaimed bursary allowance.

The embattled Executive Secretary said he will not comment as the issue is under investigation, he further confided that he was invited by the Criminal Investigation Department over bursary allowance.

“For now I’m under instruction by my lawyer not to talk to the Press”, said Abdul Wahab.

The Commissioner of education, Honorable Ahmed Tijjani Aliyu declined to comment on the matter saying the matter was still under investigation by the CID.

It would be recalled that Nasarawa State Students Association president expressed concern over the delay in the disbursement of the second batch of scholarship to beneficiaries, calling on the state governor to come to the plight of the students.

He also raised alarm over the non-remittance of N4 million by the Nasarawa State Scholarship Board.

Adding that the Association would stand firm for students at all times, as he said that majority of students are yet to access their bursary allowance.
