Nasarawa Govt Borrows To Pay Local Govt. Workers November Salary

Piqued over the non-release of November allocation from the Federal Allocation Account Committee has foisted Nasarawa State Government to borrow money to Seattle November salaries of Local Government workers.

The Commissioner of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Haruna Osegba disclosed this during the state’s LGAs Joint Account Committee meeting.

Osegba said the meeting is an extra ordinary and combined one in the sense that there is no money to share like the previous months, stating that for the first time the meeting is holding without a table on how salaries would be paid to each LGA in the state.

“This is due to lack of meeting by the Federation Account Committee at the federal level to allocate resources to each state and the Federal Government for the month of November.

“As a responsible government, despites lack of we have to look inward to enable us pay our workers more so that we are in Christmas period,” he added.

He explained that already commercial banks are willing to fixe loan to the ministry to enable it pay workers’ salaries but, the ministry has to get approval of the stakeholders before accepting or rejecting the offer.

He therefore Said payment of salaries to LG workers which be the same with what they received in October would commence from Friday December.

Abdullahi Adeka,Chairman of Nigeria Labour Congress, Sa’adatu Mohammed, Interim Committee Chairman of Obi who spoke on behalf of workers and LGAs supported the idea.

The duo has however appealed that the ministry should borrow from other alternative sources of funds that are interest free.
