Nasarawa Government To Supply Solar Power To Boarding Schools-Education Commissioner

The government of Nasarawa state has taken a concerted measure aimed at curbing the total blackout experience in the state by connecting boarding schools with solar power simply referred to lightening.

The commissioner of education, Ahmed Tijjani Aliyu said arrangement are on top gear to provide solar power to the 29 existing boarding schools in the state, he asserted that the frantic steps taken was meant to add value to boarding schools that are in dire need of power.

Tijjani in addition said the lightening project was first to be test run at the state ministry of water resource and rural Development before the full commencement of the project in the state, while reacting on the epileptic power supply to Government Science School, Lafia and the disconnection of Government Girls College, Wamba from the national grid.

The commissioner blamed the power supply firm for lack of power, saying the state government would not pay for a service not rendered, describing the situation as uncalled for.

“Our problem with Abuja Electricity Distribution Company was that nobody enjoyed power in the state, not only our schools, how many Journalists are enjoying electricity? When did you see light last”.

The commissioner affirmed that the state government is expending the total sum of N13m monthly on the up-keeping of day secondary schools in the state; he however said the state government is committed on the timely supply of foodstuff to boarding schools.

Commenting on the expiration of accreditation of courses at the Nasarawa State Polytechnic, Lafia, Honorable Tijjani opined that arrangement was at top gear towards addressing the situation, saying more attention was accorded to Nasarawa State Polytechnic and other tertiary institutions.

“Just recently we received a memo from the management of thee institution on the issue of accreditation and very soon we will invite the management to defend the memo for onward action, he added.
