Nasarawa Government Invests Over N8 Billion Into State University In 2 Years-Vice Chancellor

The Vice Chancellor, Nasarawa State University, Keffi Professor Muhammad Akaro Mainoma said that the state government has invested over N8 billion in infrastructural development in the institution in the last two years.

Akaro Mainoma made this known on Saturday during the 5th combined convocation ceremony of the 7 sets of students of 2008/2009 to 2015/2016 academic session of the Nasarawa state University, Keffi in Keffi local government area of the state.

The governor said the state would in agriculture, saying that the importance of agriculture to the development of the society can not be over-emphasized.

Adding that Agriculture does not only provide food, fights poverty, hunger, unemployment but it also improve on the revenue base of the country.

The state governor, Umaru Tanko Al-Makura urged the grandaunts to be good ambassadors of the University by adding values to the lives of their communities and the nation at large through the sound knowledge they had acquired in the institution.

The state government is proposing the establishment of Institute of Agriculture in Lafia to be scheduled with the responsibility of boosting agricultural research so as to improve on the quality of agriculture produce in the state.

Al-makura also said that the state government had procured four units of fertilizers blending machine for the sole purpose of producing fertilizers at subsidized rate for local farmers in order to boost food production in the state.

The governor further urged the management of the university to look inwards in order to implore ways of improving on its Internally Generated revenue (IGR) so as to complement the state government efforts in improving on the standard of education in the state.

Also speaking, Dr.Shehu Chindo-Yamusa III, the Chancellor of the University, promised to justify the confidence reposed in him by the governor while serving the generality of   the people.

The emir also promised to discharge his duties without fear or favour so as to improve on the standard of education in the institution and the state at large.

He called for collaborative efforts in order to develop the University for the Overall Development of the country.

Earlier, Prof. Muhammad Akaro-Maina, the Vice Chancellor of the institution, commended Almakura for investing massively in the education sector and called for its sustenance.
