Nasarawa Education Commissioner Declares Embargo On Employment Of Non-Academic Staff

The commissioner of education has directed all heads of tertiary institutions ranging from College of Agriculture, Lafia, Nasarawa State Polytechnic, Lafia and College of Education, Akwanga to henceforth stop from employing nonacademic staff into the service of their various institutions.

Speaking during a visit to the Nasarawa State Polytechnic, Lafia Hon Tijjani expressed discontentment with the high number of nonacademic staff as a serious predicament which if not tackle within the shortest time would affect the existing tertiary education.

He attributed the over blunt of the institutions with non-academic staff to pressure from highly placed personalities from left, right and centre.

He expressed displeasure on the high rate of nonacademic staff in all the existing tertiary institutions as unhealthy to the entire system which if left unattended to would result to serious predicament.

Saying academic staff remained the backbone of every educational institution.

“Schools would not exist without academic staff, this is real in almost all the schools, In College of Education the school has a total of 200 academic staff and 200 nonacademic staff”.

“Is a same story in College of Agriculture, Lafia, also in Polytechnic?

The commissioner was reacting to the revelation of the rector, Nasarawa State Polytechnic, Lafia that the institution has a total number of 635 staff

He further explained that the school has a total of 265 academic staff and 222 nonacademic staff in the service of the Polytechnic.
