Though before now, many people have expected changes and shifts in political positions and alliances, few politicians predicted that things could fall apart as easily and quickly as they now do in Nasarawa State as the Deputy governor, Silas Agara, was said to have told Al-Makura that he was not ready to drop his aspiration for any other aspirant, vowing to take his fight to the venue of the forthcoming primary election.

While Tukur and Wadada vowed not to hearken to the governor’s demand to drop their ambition with a view to supporting any consensus arrangement in the state, known for the unity of purpose among its political elite, is now quickly losing its unique qualities as the political gladiators chose to go their separate ways ahead of the September 25 gubernatorial primary election.

Specifically, two of the main political actors, who in the past have worked together to provide leadership and direction for the largely illiterate electorate, former governor and now senator, Abdullahi Adamu, and  governor, Umaru Tanko Al-Makura have for the first time, pitched their tent with different governorship aspirants.

During a recent meeting with his S.A, S.S.A, Local Government bosses and his Personal Assistants, the governor, apparently to spite Adamu, was said to have communicated his preferred aspirant who happens to be Engr. A. A. Sule, who recently resigned from his job in Dangote Group to joined the race.

Al-Makura during the meeting was said to have given his blessing to one of his Commissioners, Ahmed Aliyu Tijjani, to challenge the erstwhile governor, Abdullahi Adamu for the party’s ticket in the western senatorial constituency.

Sule was roundly rejected at the meeting as the governor was said to have told those who attended the meeting to propagate the aspiration of Engr. A. A Sule to the people and on the other hand, Adamu, a deft and seasoned politician, is believed to be supporting an aspirant from the western senatorial constituency in the person of Ja’afaru, who is a member of the House of Representatives.

The incumbent senator representing Nasarawa West senatorial district, Adamu hinged his support for Ja’afaru on the fact that the northern senatorial constituency where Sule comes from, is the least in terms of the number of votes and membership of the ruling APC in the state.

These are facts highlighted by mostly two aspirants from the western senatorial constituency, Aliyu Ahmed Wadada and Shehu Tukur,  who, incidentally, are the amongst the governorship aspirants in the state.

Is no longer news that the executives of the APC in the state were also said to have poignantly told the governor to discard his choice of candidate and encourage free, fair and transparent primary elections for all positions in the state.

The party’s leaders in the state, divided along the lines of support for Wadada and Tukur, have, therefore resolved to work with their national counterparts in Abuja to organize transparent and credible primary election.

Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura  however, would have none if that, and argued, maybe correctly, that Adamu was given the chance to not only name and instal his successor in 2007, but he also determined the fate of virtually all political aspirants while he was the governor of the state.

However, Al-Makura in his bid to install his successor, regardless of means, again this week in Lafia, met with his Deputy, top appointees and gubernatorial aspirants with a view to placating them, and makes them see the need for reaching consensus over the choice of candidate.

The meeting, like others before it, has failed to meet the intended target of accepting Engr.A.A Sule a consensus candidate to fly the party flag come 2019
